With the year I had, I agree with this NY Post front page. Let's hope that 2009 is better. |
My brudder stopped over New Years Eve waiting to pickup the Vinman from the airport. Dick Clark still helps us ring in the New Year, and he does pretty good, all things considered. |

Welcome to 2009. Hope you enjoyed your celebration and welcomed 2009 nicely.
We received a Christmas Aloha from our friends in Hawaii, DM and FC. You guys
look great. Hang loose !!!
|
We took Frank's bandages off last night. Things look well, but he still has pain and can't really put pressure on the leg yet. The surgery marks looks small enough to blend in once healed. |

Frank continues to recuperate well. Thanks for all the inquiries, and the basket of chocolate from the Bank was very thoughtful, and well received.
Our man about town, CH spent some time in the ER as well recently. Feel well, and let us know how you make out over the next week or so.
Congratulations to my sis-in-law BS (Babs). She picked up her brand new ride by Jeep. |

Great news with Frank. We got home by about 1:00pm. Things went well, operation took less time than expected. Surgeon, Dr Dolan found and removed a fatty tumor mass near the knee cap. He believes this should resolve his problems. Frank did great in recovery, all the staff were nice, and helpful. Here are the pics from this long day @Flickr and my standard Pics of Frank's Knee Operation. Get well Frank. We love you very much. You did real good today son. |
It's 5am, and we're headed to North Shore University Hospital for Frank's knee operation. Updates will be made later today. |

KP planned a very nice surprise party for Joe at Pearl last night. All of Joe's friends were there to wish him well in the NYPD Academy. Checkout the pics of Joe's NYPD party on Flickr and my standard pics of Joe's NYPD party at Pearl |

The issue of Barack Obama's eligibility to be President continues to fall before the Supreme Court. I find it odd that the question is still out there, and it has not been fully exposed, so that all sides can accept the facts as they would have to exist. Mr. Obama either is or is not eligible. Simple presentation of certain documents would cleary highlight the facts. Would they not ?
Take the new Musings Poll asking if we should expect Obama to be constitutionally eligible to be our next President |

Today is my Momma's birthday. Happy Birthday Mom. I Love You !!! |
Our man about town, CH provides us this historical writing on College Point and a few old pics. |
St. Paul's College opened in 1839 and closed 10 years later. But the name for this area of Queens - "College Point" - stuck. After the school closed, the Chisholm family erected a stone mansion on the site. This photo from the New York Public Library shows the mansion which was built in 1848. The city took over the property in the 1930s and created "College Point Park". Mayor LaGuardia used the mansion as his "Summer City Hall" in 1937. In 1939, the city decided to demolish the mansion. In 1966, Mayor Lindsey renamed the park after Hermon MacNeil, a College Point sculptor who was known across the nation, mostly for designing the "Standing Liberty" quarter.

My great-niece, JG is at that wonderful camera-shy age. She's a beautiful girl, and should be happy to take pics, but this is fun too. It makes for great surprise shots. Here's a series from Christmas.
Merry Christmas everyone. Have a safe and enjoyable day. Spend time with your family, and take some additional time to think about our troops. |

Please, read Dennis Prager - When a woman isn't in the mood, Part 1. I'm looking forward to Part 2.
Joe and KP came across this image at the mall. Now, the sad part is, that in order for all the carts to get this embroidered on them, some baby had to die. Such is America today...
I think it takes a special person to submit home raw footage of their Olympic tryouts. My AJ offers us the benefit of her experiences, so we can learn. Here are examples of why AJ didn't make it to the olympics.
With Christmas just 2 days ahead, where do you stand with your spending ? Please take our Musings Christmas shopping Poll.
This just in from my AJ, how tell tell if you're having a bad day. |
A guy is sitting at the bar just staring at his drink for half an hour when this big trouble-making biker steps next to him, grabs his drink, gulps it down in one swig and then turns to the guy with a menacing stare as if to say, 'What'cha gonna do about it?'
The poor little guy starts crying.
'Come on man I was just giving you a hard time,' the biker says. 'I didn't think you'd CRY.' 'I can't stand to see a man crying.
'This is the worst day of my life,' says the little guy between sobs. 'I can't do anything right.
I overslept and was late to an important meeting, so my boss fired me.
When I went to the parking lot, I found my car was stolen and I don't have any insurance.
I left my wallet in the cab I took home. I found my wife in bed with the gardener and my dog bit me.
So, I came to this bar trying to work up the courage to put an end to my life, and then you show up and drink the damn poison.

I sure hope this doesn't have any other underlying significance, but a HSBC Bank employee was found hanged in his hotel room in London. As sad as this is, our stock is doing bad enough, we don't need any other scandal to envelope us. Our prayers go out to the family, he was a young man with 2 children.
Good luck to JM at work. He's up for the 2008-09 BOMA/NY Pinnacle Award as Manager.

Joe was told to report for the academy on January 7, 2009. Congratulations son !!!
I'm trying to do some research on the restoration work being done at our building. It is know as the Knox Hat building, built in 1901, by John H. Duncan. I've come across a bunch of good sites that you might be interested in.

Here's what Joe will be getting himself into when he begins the academy. The NYPD has a YouTube channel, and this was a video posted about the academy. Inside the NYPD - Episode 9: Police Academy |
Here's an interesting story about what appears to be markings representing some sort of tunneling project in the South Dakota Badlands. Here's someone's analysis as well. Look for yourself on Google Map or Google Earth at these coordinates : Lat 43°31'46.41"N ; Lon 102°43'31.66"W . The area involved is HUGE, if this is tunneling, what is it for ? Me, I think it can explain where a lot of our money has been diverted to. Are we building underground cities or rescue tunnels ? Is it being used to store all the food the government has been buying up ? |
Our building is now completely covered with the scaffolding and covering. And now they have an advertisement on the scaffolding bridge. All this activity has forced us south to the cubby hole to hang out. Be sure to come visit us by the brass door/tablet that's also one of our emergency exits. |
It's a week until Christmas. How are we all doing with our spending ? Please take our Musings Christmas shopping Poll.
This guy has been praying every day to the flagpole at the NY Public Library. He's facing south, so I ain't clear on who he's praying to. |
I got a text message from Joe, and this was posted on 1010WINS, so it looks like Joe will begin the NYPD Academy class in January. He spoke to his investigator, and all his papers are in order, and he was told he's in and to wait for the call to report. That's great news for Joe. He's worked so hard for this, and we are so proud of him. Congratulations son, now get ready to pack some heat .... |
New NYPD Recruiting Class Saved
NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- With a smile as bright as a child on Christmas morning Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly happily unwrapped a gift for the NYPD Thursday -- the new recruiting class will still go on with recruits entering the academy in January.
Looks like we may be getting good news on Joe's chance of getting into the January NYPD Academy class. Seems the mayor and city council reached a budget deal, and 250 cadets will go into the January class. With Joe being no. 72 and sitting with a Cum Laude diploma, things are looking good. Good Luck today Joe !!!

My honey shoots over this scientific gem. I have to believe that any story or sentence that begins like this - Scientists find hole in Earth's magnetic field - well, that can't be a good story, can it ? Sure enough, you have to read it, and it ain't good. It evens contains the sentence "... Recent satellite observations have revealed the largest breach yet seen in the magnetic field that protects Earth from most of the sun's violent blasts ..."
Now this is interesting - Scientists Discover New Element, the Heaviest Yet Known to Science
I found this story at Rense - Swiss watch found in 400-year-old tomb - UNBELIEVABLE - I have no idea what to make of it, and hope to hear your ideas. |
Merry Christmas, from my AJ. Checkout the Ashland University Christmas Card. The music is so pleasing, that you can stay on the card and go about other business on your PC, with the music playing in the background. Thanks AJ !!! |

I got a new ornament for our Christmas tree this year. It's my new Festivus PEZ truck. Happy Festivus all.
I know how all of the news reports about the latest Wall St scam can be confusing for our younger viewers. In order to provide visual assistance, this is a prime example of a pyramid scheme, commonly referred to as a Ponzi scheme.
Here's the latest photo of OJ Simpsons' new mansion.
From my AJ, an early letter to Santa - |
Dear Santa, Please send me a baby brother.
Santa wrote back: "Send me your mother..."
A lot of demolition has taken place at Shea Stadium. It's almost reduced to just a skeleton. Checkout the pics |
Some of you have asked how my vacation was. Here's a quick review of what I had to put up with for a week.... |
Now, I am ONLY kidding. I love being home with my honey ....
We had our first major snow today. The first few flakes were as big as snowballs. I do hate it when it accumulates, but the first snows are the best to look at and to be walking around in. |
Ro got a pack of Marlboros from a friend who went to Switzerland. Can't be long before this design makes it here. Even with package labeling like this, cigarettes sell like hotcakes. |
JibJab made it to Westchester. Checkout the M's as they rock for Christmas.

I've been on vacation all week, and missed my usual Friday Chinese food lunch. I look forward to my fried rice on Fridays, and stumbled across this to fill the void for the day. There's always next week. |

My honey sends in this article about this years biggest full moon today. It has an effect on tides as well. Checkout the tide at the Malba jetty. It was running over the jetty, and 2 hours later it had receded.
My sis-in-law DA has her Rav all decked out as a reindeer for Christmas

Scooby is back on solid ground, and put together this story and photo slideshow, enjoy.
Well, we had Frank's follow-up yesterday with the the surgeon, and he will need the knee operation. We're set for 12/29 and it should be a few hours barring any problems. It'll be OK kid, I promise. In fact, if I had to do the operation, I probably could. Want me to get my tools son ?
Some interesting happenings going on in Illinois. This Governor is in deep doo-doo. One can hope, since it is about hope and change now with our new president-elect. One can have hope, that if there was a 5 year investigation, and phone calls were tapped, that the long phone conversation Barry had with Rod on 11/23 was taped and it contained some interesting language. I say hope, because suddenly, the long conversation they say Barry had on 11/23, they now say never happened.... more to come, I'm sure.
As we get closer to Christmas, we still want to know if you've spent more or less than last year. Please check out our Musings Christmas shopping Poll.
Even my brother FLRC is in a giving mood, and provided us with this gem. |
Johnny's Little Sister:
Little Sally came home from school with a smile on her face and told her mother,
'Frankie Brown showed me his weenie today at the playground!'
Before the mother could raise a concern, Sally went on to say,
'It reminded me of a peanut.'
Relaxing with a hidden smile, Sally's Mom asked,
'Really small, was it?'
Sally replied, 'No......salty .
I love the season of giving. TG offers some great advice for men. Observations by a variety of renowned individuals.

My kids are much older now, so we have different ways to explain things to them than many younger parents might have. So, at this time of year, as you try to explain how Santa gets around the world and delivers all those presents in just a few hours to your kids, here's a handy reference link to help you. How Santa's sleigh works.
